Students from the UK practised darning and toured the Amsterdam House of Arts and Crafts to learn about shoe-making and DIY repair.

Femke Dix is the owner and cobbler of Schoenmakerij Sole in Hilversum, Netherlands. She is one of the few female cobblers in the Netherlands and specializes in sneaker repair alongside traditional footwear repair. We visited her shop on a chilly autumn day in early October. She welcomed us with a warm and contagious smile. She shared with us how she fell in love with the craft, the challenges, and opportunities the cobbler community faces, her hope for fostering a young generation of cobblers, and her personal connection to shoe-making with her Surinamese background.
